Our experience in the tunnelling industry began with the development of the Australian tunnelling network in 1892.

Humes Limited

The Hume family began its association with concrete in construction when in 1911, WR Hume obtained a worldwide patent for the centrifugal casting of concrete pipe.

Hu-Metal Pty Ltd

In 1964, David Hume and his brother Ken founded Hu-Metal, driven by a passion for innovation. Their invention, the Pipe Forming Machine, revolutionised production by enabling them to roll 60 tubes per day, far surpassing the industry standard of 13. With unmatched precision, competitive pricing, and high production capacity, they secured a tender with the Melbourne Metro Board of Works (MMBW) to supply 900 tonnes of steel tunnel sets for the first bored sewerage tunnel. This success paved the way for four consecutive MMBW projects. Their dedication to innovation earned them the prestigious BHP Steel award in 1979.
